I.M. Pei- Bank of China Tower
The first module of "Introduction to Contemporary Architecture", course code: CONTEM-001.
This course is a part of the "Introduction to Contemporary Architecture" series. It will teach the background information, architectural plan drawing and model making of Bank of China Tower, including design concepts, structural mechanics of triangular trusses, I.M. Pei's design style, basic office design configuration, common structure of skyscrapers, building services design, glass curtain wall, central core and information on the use of floor plans. Also, it will introduce other works of I.M. Pei, including the glass pyramid at the entrance of the Louvre Museum in Paris, Miho Art Museum in Japan and the Suzhou Museum in China. The total length of the teaching video is about 60 minutes, which can be divided into 2 to 3 days of interest class activities.

This lesson will teach the drawing skills of architectural drawings, the basic design and layout of the office, the common structure of skyscrapers, the building services design, the glass curtain wall, the central core and the use of floor plan information to choose seats.
This lesson will teach the basic configuration of setting up the model, using scissors to handle the indentation of the paper cards, and the precautions for the order of applying double-sided tape.
In addition, we will teach the concept of Bank of China Tower consisting of 4 sets of triangular prisms, the location of the lightning rod and how to read the name of the street from the Master Layout Plan.

A1: Basic Internet electronic devices, including computers / mobile phones / tablets to watch instructional videos. The rest of the detailed materials, tools, and teaching files to be download are listed in the content of each class. The main teaching materials and tools include: spaghetti, marshmallow, long ruler, cutting mat (not compulsory ), drawing board (not compulsory), fine-liner pens, signature pen, masking tape, butter/ tracing paper, architectural floor plan, adult scissors, children scissors, double-sided tape, light-coloured highlighter, pen, architectural model paper card, master layout plan, black hard paper card.
A2: This course is an online pre-recorded video, not an online real-time interactive course, so there is no need to make an appointment for class.
A3: The length of the entire instructional video is as follows: "Background Information" (about 16.5 minutes), " Floor Plan Drawing " (about 16.5 minutes) and "Model Making" (about 25 minutes). Please note that the actual learning time will be longer than the above time. It is recommended to reserve 30 minutes for "Background Information", and it is recommended to reserve 90 minutes for " Floor Plan Drawing" and "Model Making", which can be divided into 2-or-3-day interest class activity.
